Why Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is not solely a perfect vacation destination; it is also a great place to call home. This remarkable country of Central America offers many investment opportunities. Various factors such as the government’s commitment to preserving the nation’s natural resources, and the implementation of several policies and systems, have made Costa Rica an ideal place for tourists, expats, residents, and investors.
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the country is home to some of the most beautiful beaches around. Costa Rica has over 300 beaches that dot its coastlines, 56 of which have received an award from the Ecological Blue Flag program.
The country is also rich in tropical rainforests, featuring a vast diversity of floras and faunas that would astound any nature lover. Despite only taking up about 0.01% of the world’s total land mass, the country harbors 5% of the world’s biodiversity.
The local government has devoted much of its energy and resources in its effort to preserve natural resources. About 35% of the country has been designated as protected, both by federal and private institutions.
Foreigners get the same property ownership rights as the locals. That means you can own land or a home, and have the full rights to use, control, or transfer the property at will. Prices vary depending on the location, but property taxes are considerably lower than those of other countries.
While no country is totally crime-free, Costa Rica is a relatively safe and stable place, so much that it abolished its army in 1949. The funds were then diverted to improve education and health care.
With a literacy rate of 96%, Costa Rica is among the highest in the world.
Costa Rica’s economy is very progressive, as the nation strives to continually industrialize and diversify it. They ranked 49th in Heritage’s 2013 Economic Freedom Index. With a score of 67, the country placed higher than the world average of 59.6.
